Advice About Financial Support

Last updated 02 April 2020

Where to get advice

There are multiple sources of advice for financial support that is available:

  • Your landlord
  • Local Benefit Advice Agencies
  • Online Advice
  • Government Departments

As a range of financial supoprt now exists it can be difficult to know which benefits are the right benefits. We recommend that you seek advice at the earliest opportunity as some of the benefits you are entitled to cannot be backdated.

IMPORTANCE OF CLAIMING IN TIME
It is important to gain advice and claim benefits as soon as possible as some benefits cannot be backdated.

Local Advice Agencies

Some of the best advice is available from local advice agencies such as Citizens Advice. The advisers have good knowledge of all benefits and can help consider all the options and implications. However, there may be some delays due to high demand during the early morning and late afternoon.

Citizens Advice national phone service: 03444 111 444 9:00am-5:00pm.

Trafford Council Welfare Rights Advice: 0161 912 2735 9:30am-12:30pm and website

Salford Council Welfare Rights Advice: 0800 345 7375 10:00am-12:00pm and website

Online Advice
A search online will give you a lot of information and this can be overwhelming. If you need a general understanding of the financial support available use the websites shown below:
Government Departments

Different government departments are responsible for different financial support. Each department will have produced online resources and provide telephone advice services.

Unfortunately, many of the government telephone services are experiencing long delays due to demand. We recommend you access their online information first.

What to Do Next

We recommend you do the following:

  • Contact your landlord to discuss your situation and receive general advice
  • View the Money Advice Service and Money Saving Expert sites to gain a general understanding of the financial support available
  • Ring your local advice agencies for expert advise
  • Use online services and other helpline services to gain further information
  • Use government online and phone services for detailed information
  • Make your claims

If you're not 100% clear on what help is available contact David on 0161-728-5001 or use the contact form.
